Watched my first WTA tennis quarter-finals at Bukit Kiara Equestrian Club and it was quite an experience. I was actually standing beside Elena Dementieva when the rains came down Friday evening and didn’t realise it. Watching tennis on TV is one thing but being there court-side is quite something else. There’s so much to see. I arrived at 5.30pm and stayed all they way till 11.00pm catching a series of singles and doubles matches with players of different styles and calibers. The Russian players use a lot of power. The smaller frame Asian players may not be as powerful but they use a lot of strategy and variety of play to keep their opponents off-guard and frustrated. Even watching how thoroughly they dry the courts is interesting.
Here’s a photo-montage that tells the story of my first “live” tennis tournament.
Now I’ve got a few more tricks to try when I next play.
