A Quieter 38th Birthday

by JermynToh on 15 November, 2009

If this 38th birthday is anything to go by, I’d say I’m enjoying growing older.

Instead of crazy parties and orchestrated surprises, my bestest friend (noted upgrade) arranged a sit-down dinner at Original Sin with a disparate range for new and old friends followed by a wine and cake session at his new apartment. It’s been a while since I’ve had a proper sit down dinner with many of them so being able to talk at length and laugh really felt good. The next few days were in the same vein with different groups of close friends that go back many years.

The quote ” Friends are family we choose for ourselves” best describes what kept going through my mind. These are friendships we can pick up even after not seeing each other for years and they’re more valuable to me than most everything I have. I thank everyone for the times we’ve shared, the strength you lend to me, the kicks-in-my-ass you’ve given, the inane chatter & well-coordinated choreography we do and I eagerly look forward to more years of silliness together.

So here’s hoping everyone had as wonderful a week as me and that the upcoming week and year-end period be filled with lots of great things!
