Losing A Friend

by JermynToh on 5 September, 2009

A close friend was sick for a couple of weeks before falling really ill after his lover’s birthday and ended up in an ICU for 39 days. He passed away on the 3 September and he was cremated today, 5 September 09.

He was a special person with a warm heart, his affable personality, love for having fun and living life enriched all those who knew him. Besides being a dear friend he was my pool partner, dancing partner & my bodyguard on the dance floor. I was asked to organise his 15th anniversary with his long time partner 2 years ago and their relationship of 17 years taught me so much about being with someone.

Till today I cannot believe I won’t see his smile, hear his voice and get his calls & SMSes egging me to come out. When you loose a close friend, you suddenly look at life differently.

We are fragile creatures and our lives can pass in just a moment. If we get to live a long time then we’re lucky. If we have to go in the next moment, we should be going with no regrets. We shouldn’t get too caught up with things that stress us out and we should make a bigger effort to let the people we care about know how important they are and to really cherish our moments with them.

Looking on the positive, I give thanks that his passing has made me take stock of my life. I give thanks that Leroy and Kassim taught me lessons about being together for the long-run. I give thanks to see how deeply Kassim loved Leroy and to see the beauty of sharing your life with someone. I give thanks that this has allowed me to be a true friend to Kassim who grieves deeply.

Thank you, Leroy Chan, for all that you taught me, all the time we’ve shared together and the many memories. I’m gonna miss you loads.
