Sigh …. it doesn’t pay to be a helpful sometimes.
The 2 times I lend money to friends that I haven’t known for a long time are the 2 times I get played out.
To make a long story short, I just found out that a friend I had helped pay some bills for has disappeared. Tried calling his mobile and its been terminated. When I call around, I find out that he has used different names in different cities and has chalked up a reputation of taking from one person to repay another person.
He’s supposed to be an expat in BKK and didn’t have a DBS account so I was just helping a fellow expat out coz I know how much of a bitch it is to get some transfers sorted out to another DBS account holder.
If I really wanted to, I could call in favours to find out where he works and pursue this. But its not good karma.
Kindness shud beget kindness.
Oh well … just reminds me not to be so trusting of new people I meet in future.

U know .. i used to be really open handed (as opposed to tight-fisted) when it comes to lending friends.
But it is such a drag to have to remind my friend (who spends like a prince and drinks like a fish) that I need my dough back.
Think that’s why i only lend to a choice select few.
