well,
i don’t think AWARENESS as such is the problem.
my own sense (correct me if i am wrong) is that the young persons KNOW about HIV they just DON’T THINK that it will happen to them.
it’s the translation of awareness into BEHAVIOURS.

a parallel situation seems to exist with smoking. i don’t believe there is a single smoker in singapore (or malaysia?) who does not understand the risks of smoking. they are even writ large on cigarette packets. but there are still smokers.

equally (this is my contention) the people who practice “unsafe” sex know all about HIV and its prevention but still go on.
are they “aware”? i would say so. does it make any difference to their behaviour – for some or most yes, but some are seemingly unaffected …. we need to think more deeply about why….
