REVIEW: THE INN SALADAENG = LOUSY HOTEL

I know people were asking me about this hotel so I just wanted to let anyone who’s thinking about staying there to think twice.

This surely is a case of pretty pictures and a beautifully designed website doing a wonderful con job.

Other than the location being great, everything else sucks.

1) Upon checking in, I tried to pay by credit card and they said they only accepted cash. Full payment + deposit needed to be paid. I really think that should have been highlighted when I was making the reservation. What kind of hotel doesn’t accept credit cards!!!!

2) The first room i walked into was tiny! Even the door was smaller than usual coz they had to accommodate a infrasctructural beam that ran thru part of the room.

I asked to be moved to a room on the higher floor and they said i’d have to upgrade; i.e. pay more.

3) Second room was slightly better but there’s seriously no space around the room to put ur bag if its any bigger than the usual carry on trolley bags.

4) All the rooms use ugly white energy saving flourescents. There are no warm lights or any lights with a dimmer.

5) Forget about asking for extra pillows are anything else cause you really just get the basic things.

6) U enter and exit the hotel using an access key card and each guest staying there needs to be registered and issued one or they won’t let you in. Meaning all guests had to be registered. Extra guests are charged at 500Bht a nite. Thankfully when I came back at sunrise … the person attending the door was a gay boy so he just waved me in with my fren.

Subsequent nites i didn’t come back cause it was just too tedious. That’s how i got to visit a cosy spiffy nice new hotel …. see below.

7) They are super anal about check-out at 12noon. No such thing as extending even tho my flight was at 8.20pm. I had to pay for half a day just to check out at 6pm. Anything after 6m i had to pay the full day rate.

The lady was so calculative … I asked if it was at all possible to get a small discount seeing that half day = 12 hours and 12 – 6pm = 6 hours. She actually paused to think about it a moment and then said no. Wah liao eh …. really calculative chinese business women only interested in making money and doesn’;t give a hoot about their hotel guests.

I had a group of frens staying at Chin House which was around the corner and they got a 3pm check-out with little hassle!
8) The cleaning staff made a racket the 3 days i was there from 1pm – 4pm as they cleaned the rooms.

Wah liao eh … want to sleep or nap in the afternoon from party all night also cannot!!

Mind you … these are not the half-decent trained staff you get at any basic hotel .. these are your noisy boisterous type of maids.

9) No breakfast or cafe or any food served so you have to trek outside.

10) Rooms on one side of the building face another building / residential area so you can only get a semi decent view above the 4th floor. (They only have 8 floors).

——————-

For that kind of price …. I say pay just a bit more and stay at the I-Residences. http://www.ihotelresort.com/bangkok/

Its a little bit further away down Silom road but the rooms are super nice for the price. Heard a fren shopped around online and booked his room for 1,700Bht a nite. Really nice interior, big flat-screen TV, nice comfy bed. A cab ride from DJ station or the Ascott back to that hotel is 35Bht. There’s a BTS station right outside so very convenient (one stop to DJ station).

I checked out Silom Serene and their prices seem to be going up! RM2,900 Bht a nite!!

Will blog about my rather interesting trip soon.

wow …. 3200 Bht is ex …. u can stay at Silom Serene for that and the hotel is nice and staff super frenly

I never trust internet deals anymore … I’ve been conned a few times. One time I got so frustrated…. I made a HUGE fuss very loudly at the hotel lobby and I call the internet company up . I said I’d never book from them again and I’d make sure I spread the news about their con job. They upgraded me to a suite after that.

Think best to trust only certain website like hotelclub.net and get feedback from frens

    :-)

my fren recommended it to me

i had another fren comment on my LJ before i went that his fren stayed and complained the room is small

i just think for that price … add 200Bht and u get a REAL hotel at the i-residences … that just makes more sense

  4. JermynToh says:

think if you ask for a room near the other side of the hotel its OK.

i was there a few times in 2 days and it seemed quiet

  5. JermynToh says:

i like silon serene too … but the prices keep going up

    :-(

coz of that i’m making a point to search for nice cheaper places to stay

i-residences is really nice .. nicer and newer and CHEAPER than Silom Serene

  7. JermynToh says:

heh … its ok la … coz the hotel was tiny … i spent more time outside and made it a point to g back to someone else’s room … worked out in the end

I stayed at the Baiyoke Boutique Hotel from 17 – 19 May and had the same kind of experience as you – sold by what I saw on the website and ended up feeling like I’ve been swindled.

The room felt like a HDB 1-room flat, with the flimsy door and the single air-con unit. So they try to make it look really funky by painting it in bright pink while neutralising the pink with grey. The biggest joke of the hotel was that there were no wardrobe in the room at all! And the bathroom simply reminded me of the 80s and they covered up a hole in a wall with a small poster.

The 26″ LCD TV was probably the only saving factor but there weren’t even many channels to watch from.

For 3200baht a night (twin sharing), I think I might as well look elsewhere.

i residence is a stone throw away from Trinity Silom (which I have been staying everytime I go BKK the last 2.5 years )…. nice place… and have to keep looking for internet deals that one….

until the building opp it is completed…. it can get very noisy…. my friend stayed there and complained about the noise… other than that…. its a good place! =)

What a pity. I am really fond of the Silom Serene (and would happily stay IN there the whole day, by the pool, if I could).

  13. shaoann says:

please also blog about the fren who didn’t pay the 500B guest registration fee

  14. ellcrius says:

oooh… thanks for the review and sorry about your experience…
