Mac Lesson!

so … i was using my powerbook without my battery as i didn’t want to over-charge it. being in a rush to leave the office to beat the usual massive jams going home …. i put my Mac to sleep, unplugged it … then realised the battery wasn’t in place. i popped it back without thinking anything of things until i got home

i wanted to show serene orientalflower‘s post saying hi and that’s when my Mac wud not start up. all it did was show a little folder with the finder icon in it and a question mark.

i called my fren at the Mac shop and all her instructions were of no help.

i nearly cried and brought it in … they trouble-shooted and told me my hard-disc cudn’t get mounted. guess they saw the look on my face so my fren at the mac shop told me to come back in an hour while they fixed the problem.

serene and i headed over the Sungei Wang and had dinner, came back an hour later to find that all was ok.

their advice … don’t put ur mac to sleep without ur battery in it!!

lesson learnt … and a lesson i wanna share with everyone

i’ve been using 2 of my frens’ new MacBook Pro and somehow i get the feeling they’re not the same as the PowerBooks … even the touch pad is a little weird…. not as tactile.

conclusion …. yeah … the old Macs are still wonderful

hmmm …. whirred could mean u have a hard disc problem …. i’m sure it can be fixed la …. so long as the logic board is still working.

nooooooooooooo!!!! i’m a firm believer in old macs.. like my ibook is 7 years old! and seriously, from a design point of view, they really don’t make it like they used to. we inherited an old G4 with cinema display from the previous tenant of the flat here too, and while she got a bit cranky initially, it’s a beau to work with now… everyone should adopt an old mac!

  4. My iBook whirred for the longest time before it died! I think it’s time to buy a new Mac just for safety’s sake!

sometimes i’m out for meetings for half a day i take out my battery

don’t want to overcharge my battery since i can’t be in office to unplug it when its fully charged

  11. sleekdove says:

huh? can take out the battery one ah?
but why did you take it out anyway?

i just plug/unplug the cables when i use it at home. once the batt is full, i unplug it. the salesguy told me to do that so it will not overbloat the battery inside. something like how the handphone works.
