Why The Rejection of Snowball 04 is Bad for Singapore by Clarence on 12 December 2004
Guess I’m torn … part of me wants to stand up … say or do something … the younger Jermyn who used to havea chip on his shoulder about gay rights stirring
then there’s another part of me that has become jaded and asks … what’s the point.
Why do i feel this way:
- I truely do not believe that our leader or those who make decisions that matter in Singapore really care if we have a place in Singapore
- I heard this story from a fren … conversation at a broadcasting regulatory body regarding a gay character in a TV series …. “so long as he dies in the series its OK to have the character”
- friends getting beaten up at Marina and no one in Singapore wanting to help them … they had to walk bloody far and beg someone to lend them a phone … it was a gay bashing incident
- all this talk of us having a place in Singapore (as mentioned by Senior Minister Lee in CNN interview, PM Goh in his interview in Time magazine) and the recent turn of events
A friend told me after we heard the news … we should band together as one cause everyone feels that something should be done but no one knows what to do … he hit the nail on the head …. i guess all of us who want to react but are clueless as to what we can do to make a difference .. to make our voices heard … not to mention scared. But if we don’t stand up for ourselves .. who will ….
so anyone with any suggestion as to what we can do drop me a line 
…. whether passively like carrying / wearing a rainbow flag for a day to show we are gay or family & friends of gay people and we are here in Singapore … open-minded and celebrating diversity
…. or actively through an online space / channel ….. consolidating everything written and expressed from history to present day about being gay in Singapore ….. from people of all walks of life ….. positive and negative … to band together the voices of individuals and groups who have something to say about this
yeah … heheh … we should all move together … then it’ll be more fun .. at least the family unit is still together

we are a nation suppressed … even in the hands of the changed empire..
